Pathological / Sick or damaged ammonite
Specimen: Hildoceras lusitanicum
Location: Kettleness, Whitby N,Yorks England
Age: Upper Lias, Cement shales 180 million years old
Description: From the front view of this ammonite it
appears to be a normal good example of Hildoceras
but from the side view this changes, sometime in the
life of this ammonite it has been damaged or has had
a genetic abnormality passed on to it, but the familiar
keel of the Hildoceras has gone and is replaced with a
smooth none descript keel. well wearied!!
