Specimen: Fish Lepidotus sp
Location: South of Whitby, N Yorks England
Age: Upper lias, Jet Rock Series
180 Million Years Old
Found early this year by a customer this
rare fish was brought in for preparation, the only sign there was anything
inside this concretion was on a broken edge were a small cross section of
scales was showing. It soon became apparent on exposing the first few
scales, and seeing the direction they were laid in, that it was the head
end that was indeed hidden inside the nodule. But it was a further
four months or so of acid work and forty plus hours of manual prep that
revealed this superbly detailed specimen.
